Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteER is the closest next watch if you want the same mix of urgent emergency-room cases and a busy workplace ensemble. If what hooked you was the clock-driven tension, try 24; for real clinicians rather than scripted cases, choose the documentary Lenox Hill. No other pick duplicates The Pitt’s particular combination of an emergency-room setting and a season built around one shift.
What makes a show feel like The Pitt?
The first season of The Pitt was described by Warner Bros. Discovery as a 15-episode drama following a 15-hour shift in a Pittsburgh trauma-hospital emergency room. TVLine also describes its season structure as covering that shift in real time. That gives viewers several different things to look for in a follow-up: emergency cases, pressure unfolding against a clock, the dynamics of a workplace ensemble, or an unusually grounded view of health care. The recommendations below match different parts of that mix rather than claiming to be exact substitutes.

For the closest emergency-room ensemble: ER
Start with ER for the nearest overall match. Its busy Chicago emergency room brings together urgent patient cases, a large clinical team and characters’ continuing personal stories. It shares The Pitt’s hospital-floor urgency without relying on the same single-shift framework. TVLine identifies it as part of the series’ lineage, while TIME recommends it to viewers who want more Noah Wyle. TIME reported a 15-season run in its 2025 feature.
For the pressure of a ticking clock: 24
24 is the pick if the real-time device matters more to you than the medical setting. TVLine describes each episode as unfolding over an hour and each season as spanning a 24-hour period. The result is sustained clock-driven tension, but the series is a political thriller, not a hospital drama.

For real clinicians and patients: Lenox Hill
If you want actual medical work rather than scripted emergencies, watch Lenox Hill. TIME describes the eight-part documentary as following four physicians at a New York hospital over several months. It trades the concentrated fictional shift for observational coverage of clinicians and patients. TIME’s Netflix release information dates from 2020, so it does not establish where the series is currently available.
For another strained emergency department
Berlin ER
TVLine describes Berlin ER as a drama about exhausted staff in an underfunded emergency room in Berlin. Its longer story follows efforts to change the hospital, rather than centering on a traditional case-of-the-week pattern. Choose it for a gritty workplace story and a perspective outside the U.S. health system.

- Ideal functionality
- Reliable performance
Code Black
Code Black focuses on an overwhelmed Los Angeles emergency room where crises keep coming. TVLine describes it as fast-paced and hospital-centered, making it a fit for viewers who want urgent cases with less emphasis on romance.
For a different balance of cases and personal stories
Grey’s Anatomy for relationships
Choose Grey’s Anatomy if you want a medical setting shaped heavily by romance and long-running personal drama. That emphasis is a key difference from the compressed shift structure of The Pitt. Hulu’s U.S. page labels it a medical drama and lists 22 seasons and 465 episodes; catalog counts can change. See Hulu’s U.S. listing for Grey’s Anatomy.
House for diagnostic puzzles
For difficult diagnoses and doctor-to-doctor conflict, try House. TIME recommends it for viewers drawn to challenging medical cases. It is a diagnostic mystery, not a simulation of emergency-room work.
For workplace comedy: St. Denis Medical
St. Denis Medical keeps the hospital and workplace pressures but changes the emotional register to comedy. TIME describes the 2024 Peacock series as a mockumentary-style sitcom about staff at an underfunded hospital. Pick it when you want the institutional setting without the same intensity of a medical drama.

Third Watch
Third Watch follows a New York ensemble of police officers, paramedics and firefighters working the overnight shift. TVLine describes it as a high-stress mix of emergency services. It broadens the focus beyond medicine while retaining the team-at-work pressure.
Call the Midwife
For period medicine and social history, try Call the Midwife. TVLine describes its starting point in the East End in 1957 and its continuing attention to medical and social issues. Its midwifery focus and gentler, more hopeful tone make it a thematic connection, not a structural match.

How grounded health storytelling can matter
The USC Norman Lear Center’s 2025 brief, Life and Death in The Pitt, reports findings from interviews with 25 medical professionals and a survey of 1,409 HBO Max viewers, 709 of whom had watched at least three episodes. Nearly 90% of the surveyed viewers agreed that the show educates while entertaining, makes provider stress relatable and depicts how understaffing affects patient outcomes. Those figures describe the study respondents, not the general population. Among viewers of the relevant storylines, 26.9% of organ-donation storyline viewers and 38.8% of end-of-life storyline viewers sought more information about those topics; these are storyline-viewer figures, not population rates. Read the USC Norman Lear Center brief.
Where to start

- Clock-driven tension: 24, with the caveat that it is a political thriller.
- Documentary medicine: Lenox Hill for real clinicians and patients.
- Strained ER workplace: Berlin ER or Code Black.
- A shift in tone or focus: Grey’s Anatomy for relationships, House for diagnosis, or St. Denis Medical for comedy.
