The premise also gives the series its distinctive mix of workplace drama, dystopian science fiction and black comedy, as the Television Academy characterizes it. Creator Dan Erickson said the original idea came from imagining a way to skip through an unpleasant workday: “What if I could just jump ahead to the end of the day and have already done the work?” The quote appears in the Academy’s March 28, 2025 feature on the series’ creator, cast and crew.
