The search for the next James Bond is officially underway, but Amazon MGM Studios has not named an actor. Henry Cavill has not been announced as 007: a viral post claiming he had been cast was traced to a parody account, and the studio’s latest update describes an active search without identifying its choice.
Who will be the next James Bond?
There is no confirmed successor to Daniel Craig yet. In its May 2026 update, Amazon MGM Studios said: “The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.” The statement confirms that casting is in progress, not that a decision has been made.
Craig’s last Bond film was No Time to Die (2021). Amazon MGM has not named a replacement or released a confirmed shortlist. Speculation about who might wield Bond’s Walther PPK should therefore be treated as speculation, not a casting announcement.
Has Henry Cavill been announced as 007?
No. Henry Cavill has not been announced as the next James Bond. A claim circulating online that he was announced on September 12, 2026, was traced by Lead Stories to a parody account; its September 15 fact check said it found no credible reports that Cavill would star as Bond. The studio’s latest cited update still describes an ongoing search and names no actor. That establishes that Cavill has not been announced; it does not establish whether he has had private conversations or been considered without public confirmation.

Who is casting the next Bond?
Amazon MGM’s official statement confirms the search but does not name a casting director or detail auditions. Variety reported on May 15, 2026, that auditions had started in the preceding weeks and that casting director Nina Gold had been enlisted to find the next actor. Those process details are Variety’s reporting, not details stated by the studio.
Who is making the next James Bond film?
The announced creative team includes director Denis Villeneuve, producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe, and screenwriter Steven Knight. These appointments identify key people attached to the project; they do not reveal who will play Bond.
