Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan were first linked in December 2023, after retrospective reporting placed their first meeting at a Paris fashion show earlier that year. Their relationship became more visible through public appearances and Keoghan’s role in Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” video. In December 2024, outlets reported that they had taken a break; neither artist has publicly established why it ended, and later fan speculation does not confirm a reunion.
September–December 2023: a reported meeting, then dating rumors
September 2023: reported first meeting
EL PAÍS later reported that Carpenter and Keoghan first met at a Givenchy show during Paris Fashion Week in September 2023. This is retrospective reporting, not a date either person publicly confirmed. EL PAÍS
December 2023: first public speculation
They were linked after being seen together in Los Angeles. Those reports marked the start of public dating speculation, not an official announcement by either of them. Harper’s Bazaar
2024: public appearances and a creative collaboration
March and April: event appearances and Coachella
Coverage placed the pair at Grammys-weekend events and the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party on March 10. Some accounts call this an early public appearance; the later Met Gala is more often described as their joint red-carpet debut. Keoghan was also reported supporting Carpenter at her Coachella performance in April. Teen Vogue

May 6: Met Gala
They posed together on the Met Gala steps. Keeping this distinct from their earlier Oscars after-party appearance helps explain why coverage uses “first public appearance” and “red-carpet debut” differently. Harper’s Bazaar
June: “Please Please Please” video

The video’s romantic storyline is part of its performance, not evidence about the couple’s private relationship.
August: status speculation
Reports described the relationship as on and off. Keoghan publicly praised a Carpenter track and commented on a social post, but neither action establishes their relationship status. When asked about dating, Carpenter spoke generally rather than confirming a status. In comments reported from a Rolling Stone interview, she said: “The [dating] pool is the pool, and when you meet people that feel authentic and are so brilliant and amazing in every way, that’s what you do.” She also reflected on public interest in her songwriting: “Obviously, I write songs about exactly how I feel, so I guess I can’t be so surprised that people are interested in who and what those songs are about.” Teen Vogue

December 2024: outlets report a break
On December 3–4, entertainment outlets reported that Carpenter and Keoghan had decided to take a break. Harper’s Bazaar quoted an unnamed source cited by People: “They are both young and career-focused, so they’ve decided to take a break.” That is an insider’s account relayed by the outlets, not a statement from either artist. EL PAÍS reported at the time that neither the pair nor their representatives had publicly commented. Harper’s Bazaar EL PAÍS
Later coverage says they have not confirmed the reason for the separation. The public record cited here does not establish a cause, so claims about why they split should be treated as speculation. Marie Claire UK
