What Paramount+ revealed at SDCC 2024
The first-look clip was presented during the Star Trek Universe panel on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Paramount+’s announcement described it as a Season 3 first look but did not detail its scenes or dialogue, so the clip itself is the source for what appears on screen. Paramount+’s announcement said the season was then set to debut in 2025 and noted the series had been renewed for a fourth season.
Panel time, venue, and participants
The official event preview scheduled the Star Trek Universe panel for 1:45–3:15 p.m. PT in Hall H. Justin Simien was listed as moderator. The panel brought together participants from Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Starfleet Academy, and Section 31. StarTrek.com’s July 11 preview listed Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck for Strange New Worlds, alongside executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, and Henry Alonso Myers. Paramount+’s account of the season segment specifically names Romijn and Peck with the three executive producers.
Who plays Dr. Roger Korby?
Cillian O’Sullivan was announced as recurring guest star Dr. Roger Korby. Paramount+ identified Korby as a character first introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series, where Michael Strong portrayed him. How Season 3 fits the series
Strange New Worlds follows Captain Christopher Pike, Science Officer Spock, Number One, and the Enterprise crew in the years before James T. Kirk takes command of the ship. The series centers on their exploration of new worlds. Paramount+’s cast list includes Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, and Martin Quinn, with Paul Wesley and Carol Kane as special guest stars. The official series announcement provides that cast and premise context.
The later Season 3 synopsis, published in 2025, places the story after the previous season’s Gorn encounter, with Pike still in command. It describes new life and civilizations, a villain testing the characters, and stories involving faith, duty, romance, comedy, and mystery. This is later season context, not a description of the 2024 Comic-Con clip. StarTrek.com’s June 7, 2025 announcement supplies the confirmed schedule and synopsis.
