Gary Lee Seacrest, father of television and radio host Ryan Seacrest, died at his home in Sandy Springs, Georgia, on October 29, 2025. He was 79. Ryan announced the death two days later, on October 31, and paid tribute to his father on his radio program.
When did Gary Seacrest die, and how old was he?
Gary Seacrest died on October 29, 2025, aged 79. His obituary gives his birth date as July 27, 1946, and says he died at home in Sandy Springs, Georgia, after battling cancer. The obituary, hosted by Legacy.com for Appen Media, and its biographical details establish the date and age.
Ryan shared the news publicly on October 31, 2025. That announcement date is distinct from the date of Gary’s death.
What did Ryan Seacrest say about his father?
In his public announcement, as quoted by AOL, Ryan wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week.” AOL’s October 31, 2025 report also identified the illness as prostate cancer; the obituary describes it more generally as cancer.

Ryan also spoke about Gary on On Air with Ryan Seacrest. He called his father “an amazing man” and “my best friend.” Recalling a final exchange, Ryan said: “He looked over at me — and the power in the contact — he said, ‘Take care of your mom.’” The program’s account of Ryan’s remarks recounts that moment.
Who was Gary Seacrest?
Gary was born in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, attended Greencastle-Antrim High School, and graduated from Penn State in 1968. He practiced law in Georgia for more than 30 years, ran his own firm, and served as president of the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, according to his obituary.
The obituary says Gary was at home, surrounded by his wife, Connie; son Ryan; daughter Meredith; son-in-law Jimmy; and granddaughter Flora.

On July 27, 2026, Gary’s birthday, Ryan shared family photographs and a remembrance, according to TV Insider. Ryan wrote: “Today we honor and celebrate my best friend on his birthday. Dad. He was the best listener I have ever met, and he always said, ‘I love this family.’”
