You can turn a sequence of still images into a narrated video with a mobile editor such as YouTube Create: add images, record your voiceover, adjust the sound, then export. First, though, clarify what you mean by “Ghibli images.” Actual Studio Ghibli film frames and official artwork are copyrighted material; use them only if you have permission, a suitable license, or a valid legal basis. If you mean original images with a whimsical, hand-drawn feel, use images you created or have rights to use.
First, decide which images you mean
Actual Studio Ghibli frames or artwork
A film still or official illustration does not become free to use because you found it online, use only a short excerpt, add narration, or give credit. YouTube lists permission, licensing terms, public-domain material, and applicable copyright exceptions as possible routes for using another party’s work, but none guarantees avoiding a Content ID claim or copyright strike. See YouTube’s copyright guidance. If you want to use actual Studio Ghibli material, confirm your rights before editing; for a specific legal question, consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Original images with a similar broad aesthetic
For a lower-risk project, make your own illustrations or use images whose license or permission covers your intended use. A broad visual direction is not the same thing as permission to use a film frame, official artwork, or protected characters. An image generator does not by itself establish that its output is cleared for every use.
How to create a video from Ghibli images with your voice
- Gather rights-cleared images. Use work you created, material you have permission to use, appropriately licensed images, or images whose public-domain status you have verified. Keep records of licenses and permissions.
- Arrange the story. Put the images in an order that supports the point you want to make. Draft narration that adds your own explanation, commentary, or story rather than merely naming what appears in each image. This is a useful editorial approach, not a guarantee that using someone else’s material is lawful.
- Start a project in an editor. YouTube Create’s documented workflow lets creators add photos and video to a project. Availability can depend on device and region, so check whether the app is currently available to you. The app’s audio help page describes its voiceover tools.
- Record your voiceover. In a YouTube Create project, choose Voiceover, record your narration, and add it to the timeline. A dedicated microphone is not required for this basic workflow; the app supports recording within the editor.
- Fit the narration to the images. Trim or split the audio, adjust its volume, and use audio cleanup if needed. Reorder or adjust image durations so the visuals support the spoken explanation.
- Check music and other assets. Use music only when you have the necessary rights or are using a platform-provided option under its terms. A track’s availability in one app does not mean it is cleared for every export or platform.
- Review, export, and upload. Listen through the full edit, check that the voice is clear and the images match the narration, then export from the editor. Uploading does not resolve rights questions. YouTube warns that copyright-protected material in Shorts made outside its creation tools may receive a Content ID claim or be removed following a copyright removal request; see its Shorts guidance.
Does adding your own voice make film images fair use?
Not automatically. YouTube describes fair use as dependent on the circumstances and notes that adding new expression, meaning, or message is relevant. It also says, “If your creation doesn’t add new expression, meaning, or message to the original, it probably isn’t fair use.” That guidance is not a ruling on an individual video, and copyright exceptions differ by jurisdiction. A voiceover, attribution, or noncommercial purpose alone does not establish that a particular montage qualifies. Read YouTube’s fair-use guidance and get local legal advice if you need an answer about specific images or an intended use.
