What Rebel Wilson said about writing Rebel Rising
In a December 2023 Instagram Story, Wilson told followers she was looking forward to readers seeing “a whole new side” of her. She described the book as containing “Lots of funny stuff and serious stuff,” and said she hoped readers would enjoy it as much as she had enjoyed writing it. Then she added: “Although sometimes it’s been gut-wrenching and emotional.” Us Weekly reported her remarks on December 28, 2023.
The word “gut-wrenching” referred to the emotional difficulty she said she sometimes experienced while writing. It did not cancel out her stated enjoyment of the work: Wilson presented both as parts of the same process.
How she said she worked on the memoir
Writing in isolation
In an interview with PEOPLE, Wilson said she had been writing the book for 18 months and needed to write alone and in isolation. Yahoo Entertainment reported those comments in December 2023. The 18 months is Wilson’s account of her own writing timeline, not a general measure of how long memoirs take.

Using old diaries and letters
Biography.com later reported that Wilson said old diaries and letters helped her recall how she had thought at different ages, including during periods of rejection. The same account described her search for a voice that felt like telling a friend her deepest secrets. Those materials offered her a way to revisit earlier perspectives as she shaped the memoir.
The book and its announced release date
The memoir is Rebel Rising. When Wilson spoke about signing printed “tip pages” for early copies during the 2023 holiday period, she joked that thousands more remained to sign. The contemporaneous report said the book was then scheduled for release on April 2, 2024; that was the date announced at the time, not a statement about current editions or availability.

What readers can take from her description
