Rebel Wilson attended the Sydney Tennis Classic in Sydney on Monday, January 10, 2022, and watched Australian Jordan Thompson play American Marcos Giron. Thompson won 6–4, 6–2, according to PerthNow’s report from that day. The appearance was at a past event, not a current tournament.
What happened when Rebel Wilson attended the tournament?
PerthNow reported that Wilson was back in her home town of Sydney for the event and watched Thompson face Giron. Its match score was 6–4, 6–2 in Thompson’s favor. The report establishes her attendance as a spectator; it does not say she played.
The Australian Open later described Wilson as a “self-described ‘tennis tragic’.” That is an attributed description, not evidence of her playing ability, training routine, or competitive history. The available reporting does not establish what tennis equipment she owned or used, or document a specific comment from her about this appearance.
What was the Sydney Tennis Classic?
The 2022 edition was a one-off combined event after the ATP Cup, comprising a WTA 500 women’s tournament and an ATP 250 men’s tournament, according to Tennis NSW’s 2022 annual report. For the women’s tournament record, the WTA lists the Sydney Tennis Classic as a hard-court WTA 500 held January 10–15, 2022, with Paula Badosa as singles champion.

Where was the event held, and how large was its audience?
A NSW Government announcement named Ken Rosewall Arena as the venue for the planned event. Tennis NSW’s 2022 annual report said the Sydney Tennis Classic generated 4.2 million hours viewed in Australia. That is the report’s Australian viewing figure for the event, not a measure of attendance or Wilson’s personal audience.
