The band had announced a reunion tour for 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic postponed it twice, so the first show back came roughly 11 years after its previous concert.
Why the announced 2020 reunion did not happen that year
In November 2019, Rage Against the Machine announced several 2020 shows, including an appearance at Coachella. On February 10, 2020, it announced a larger Public Service Announcement Tour, planned to run from March 26 through September 12. The band’s official announcement said the planned tour “marks the first time the iconic LA band has toured together since 2011.” That was a description of the proposed tour, not a report that the band had already performed again. The schedule was then disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In March 2020, the band postponed the tour, saying it would begin when it was confident it was safe for fans. A revised schedule moved the dates to 2021; the tour was later pushed back again to 2022. The band’s postponement notice and Pitchfork’s May 2020 report on rescheduled dates document the first delay.
When and where was the first concert back?
The first concert after the 11-year gap took place on July 9, 2022, at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. The specific date and venue are reported in the band’s historical chronology; the band’s 2020 announcement independently establishes that the planned reunion tour would be its first together since 2011. Why did the reunion run end early?
The 2022 return did not become a full-length touring cycle. After vocalist Zack de la Rocha injured his Achilles tendon during a Chicago performance, the band canceled the remaining European and North American dates, according to the historical chronology. That account supports the injury and cancellations, but the specific details here are not drawn from a primary venue archive or a direct band statement.
What the band said it planned for charitable proceeds
In its February 2020 tour announcement, the band said proceeds from its El Paso, Las Cruces, and Phoenix shows would go to immigrant-rights organizations. Because the announced tour was postponed before those dates, the statement establishes the band’s plan, not that the donations were completed.

What happened after the 2022 return?
In January 2024, drummer Brad Wilk confirmed another disbandment, as summarized in the historical chronology. This is a dated account of Wilk’s statement, not a current tour announcement; it does not establish a later reunion schedule.

For a concert document from an earlier era, the band’s Live at Finsbury Park DVD captures its June 6, 2010 show and includes behind-the-scenes footage and an interview. It was released on September 11, 2015, so it is not footage of the July 2022 return. Check the retailer or edition listing for current availability.
