Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie retained their princess titles after their father, Andrew, lost his own title and HRH style. The formal action applied to Andrew; the Royal Family’s published succession list continues to identify his daughters as princesses.
What happened to Andrew’s titles?
The change took place in stages. On 17 October 2025, Andrew said he would stop using his title and honours, while stating that he vigorously denied the accusations against him. His statement said: “I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.”
On 31 October 2025, Buckingham Palace announced that the King had initiated a formal process to remove Andrew’s style, titles and honours. The Palace said he would be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and would leave Royal Lodge for alternative private accommodation. The Palace statement said: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.”
The formal removal followed. The House of Commons Library reports that Letters Patent dated 3 November 2025 declared Andrew no longer entitled to the style or attribute of “Royal Highness” or the titular dignity of “Prince.” The Library’s briefing quotes the operative wording of the Letters Patent.

Why Beatrice and Eugenie kept their princess titles
The sisters’ titles do not depend on Andrew holding the Duke of York title. The House of Commons Library explains that the 1917 Letters Patent limited the title of Prince or Princess and the HRH style to specified descendants of a sovereign, including children of a monarch’s sons. Beatrice and Eugenie are daughters of Queen Elizabeth II’s son Andrew. The post-change Royal Family materials continue to identify them as Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
Andrew’s Letters Patent concern his own status; they do not remove his daughters’ titles. The Royal Family’s official succession page continues to list the sisters as princesses. See the Royal Family’s succession list.

Are they still HRH, working royals, and in the succession?
Title and style
Beatrice and Eugenie retained their princess titles. The Royal Family’s announcement of 4 August 2026 refers to “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank,” an official example of Eugenie’s HRH style being used after Andrew’s change. The announcement is here.
Public role and official duties
Keeping a title does not by itself make someone a working royal or establish their official duties. The Independent reported in October 2025 that the sisters would be welcome at royal-family events; that indicates event access, not a formal working-royal role. The Independent’s report does not establish a change to their duties.

Succession position
The Royal Family’s published list, checked for this article, places Andrew eighth, Beatrice ninth and Eugenie twelfth. After the August 2026 birth of Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s daughter, Adelaide Brooksbank, the list placed her fifteenth. These are positions in the official list at the time checked, not permanent ranks. Andrew’s title removal did not itself remove him or his daughters from the line of succession.
The House of Commons Library explains that a change to the succession is a separate matter requiring legislation. Under the convention connected with the Statute of Westminster, the briefing says such a change would require consent from every other Commonwealth Realm. Read the Library’s explanation of succession and royal titles.
