Apollonia Kotero, his co-star in the film, attended; the report said it was her first visit to the estate.
What happened at Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ anniversary concert?
Stereogum reported on June 29, 2014, that Prince held a late-night, private surprise event at Paisley Park as the album and film Purple Rain reached their 30th anniversary. The report named Apollonia Kotero as a guest at the concert. Its headline described the event as being “for Apollonia,” while the article supports the more specific point that she was there; it does not establish that Prince formally dedicated the entire concert to her.

Why Apollonia Kotero’s attendance mattered
Kotero co-starred with Prince in the Purple Rain film, making her presence a direct link to the work being celebrated. Stereogum also noted that it was her first visit to Paisley Park, Prince’s estate and creative complex. Her connection to the film is also described in Apollonia Kotero’s official biography.
What is known—and not known—about the performance
The published report establishes the event’s private, late-night setting, its location, anniversary context, and Kotero’s attendance. It does not give an exact calendar date for the concert or a complete set list, nor does it provide a detailed account of what Prince performed. Those details should remain open rather than be filled in by inference.

The account is a contemporary report, not a first-person description from Kotero. It does not include a direct quote from her about the concert. The available reporting therefore supports a concise outline of the occasion, not a minute-by-minute reconstruction.
How the 2014 event differs from the 2024 anniversary
The 2014 gathering was reported as a private surprise concert for the album and film’s 30th anniversary. A decade later, Rhino announced a separate 40th-anniversary program. Its June 21, 2024 announcement scheduled Paisley Park’s Celebration 2024 for June 20–24 and named The Revolution, Morris Day, New Power Generation, and other guests. The announcement also covered a new Dolby Atmos mix and a restored 4K film reissue. Those dates describe the 2024 program and releases, not current availability.

Prince died in 2016, so the live performers announced for the 2024 events were other artists—not Prince. Rhino’s announcement also quoted Prince reflecting on the album: “I think Purple Rain is the most avant-garde purple thing I’ve ever done.” That comment concerns his view of the album, not the 2014 concert.
