Prince Harry traveled to the U.K. in February 2024 after Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with a form of cancer. Harry had spoken with his father and said he would visit; he later said he flew as soon as he could and was grateful for the time they spent together. The Palace did not disclose the cancer type.
Why did Prince Harry travel to the U.K.?
Harry’s office said on 5 February 2024 that he had spoken to his father after the diagnosis announcement and planned to travel to the U.K. in the coming days. At the time, it was an announced intention. Harry did make the trip and saw the King.

In comments reported by ITV News on 16 February, Harry said: “I jumped on a plane and went to go see him as soon as I could.” ITV reported that the meeting took place at Clarence House and lasted 45 minutes. The reported length of the visit does not establish anything about the King’s condition or the state of the family relationship.
What did Buckingham Palace announce about the King’s health?
On 5 February 2024, Buckingham Palace said diagnostic tests had identified a form of cancer during a recent procedure for benign prostate enlargement. The Palace described the finding this way: “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted.” It did not name the cancer type or stage.

The Palace said Charles had begun a schedule of regular treatments and had been advised to postpone public-facing duties. It also said he would continue state business and official paperwork. Harry’s visit should not be treated as evidence of a particular diagnosis or its severity.
When did Harry arrive, and what happened afterward?
Reports differ on the precise arrival date. The Guardian reported on 6 February 2024 that Harry had arrived at Heathrow and visited his father. A later Associated Press timeline, published in 2025, lists his arrival as 7 February and his departure the following day. The sources therefore support saying he arrived in the days after the 5 February announcement, but not presenting one date as undisputed.
On 26 April 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles would shortly return to public-facing duties after treatment and recuperation. That announcement is a later point in the 2024 timeline, not a current medical update.
