Yes—if you want a brisk, playful Sherlock story rather than a solemn or strictly faithful adaptation. Tom’s Guide gave Young Sherlock four out of five stars, praising its energy, mystery and central partnership. That is the reviewer’s verdict, not a measure of audience consensus. The eight-episode series is on Prime Video; Amazon’s U.S. guide lists its release date as March 4, 2026, though availability can vary by country.
What is Young Sherlock about?
Set in 1870s Victorian England, the series follows a 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes sent to Oxford by his older brother, Mycroft, after getting into trouble. When a scientific artifact belonging to Princess Gulun Shou’an goes missing and a murder follows, Sherlock becomes a suspect. He joins forces with fellow student James Moriarty to investigate, uncovering a conspiracy tied to Sherlock’s past.
That premise gives the show a campus mystery to solve while leaving room for action and a broader origin story. Amazon’s U.S. Prime Video guide describes it as an action-packed origin story directed by Guy Ritchie.
What makes the series fun to watch?
Tom’s Guide’s four-star review favors momentum over solemnity. It highlights Ritchie’s kinetic direction, the action and humor, and a visualized “mind palace” that turns Sherlock’s reasoning into part of the show’s spectacle. The evolving relationship between Sherlock and Moriarty is another central attraction: they investigate together, and their shifting dynamic gives the mystery a character-driven thread.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The result, in the reviewer’s assessment, is an entertaining, fast-paced mystery-drama. Viewers looking for a restrained, highly traditional Holmes adaptation may find its comic tone and action-heavy approach less to their taste.
How closely does it follow the Sherlock books?
The review says the series is based on Andrew Lane’s young-adult Young Sherlock Holmes books, but it does not identify a specific volume as the adaptation’s source. It also notes that the show takes liberties with familiar Sherlock material. Treat it as a fresh screen interpretation, not a scene-by-scene rendering of a particular book.
