The Mark Harmon episode is NCIS: Origins Season 3, Episode 1, “Don’t You Forget About Me,” which CBS lists as airing October 5, 2026. CBS confirms Harmon returns as present-day Gibbs, but its official synopsis does not identify three rules he breaks. Without specific scenes to support the claim, the “three” remains an interpretation—not an established episode fact.
Which NCIS: Origins episode is the Mark Harmon episode?
“Don’t You Forget About Me” is the Season 3 premiere. CBS describes two storylines: in the present day, Gibbs’s past catches up with him in Alaska; in 1992, the team tries to rescue kidnapped Randy while Gibbs and Lala deal with the aftermath of their kiss. CBS’s episode listing gives the premiere date as October 5, 2026.

How Mark Harmon fits into Season 3
Harmon returns as present-day Leroy Jethro Gibbs, while Austin Stowell portrays the younger Gibbs in the 1990s storyline. CBS says Harmon appears throughout Season 3 as part of a present-day mystery connected to Gibbs’s Camp Pendleton years. The series follows Gibbs before the events of NCIS and is narrated by Harmon. CBS’s series overview provides that framing.
Does the premiere actually break three Gibbs rules?
That is not established by CBS’s episode synopsis. The synopsis confirms the Alaska and 1992 plotlines, but it names no rules and gives no scene-by-scene account. So the episode can accurately be described as a Mark Harmon-led return to present-day Gibbs, but not—on the available episode-specific evidence—as definitively breaking three rules.

One rule with a sourced wording is Rule No. 3: “Never believe what you are told.” The Associated Press profile of Austin Stowell identifies it as a Gibbs rule. That profile does not say the Season 3 premiere violates it. Applying the rule to a particular moment in the episode requires identifying the moment and establishing what Gibbs does or believes.
Rule-breaking or young Gibbs in the making?
A behavior that conflicts with a rule familiar from the original NCIS is not automatically a continuity error. NCIS: Origins is set before that series, when Gibbs is younger and the rules may not yet be established. A convincing claim of contradiction would need to show that the rule already applied at that point in the timeline and that the episode depicts Gibbs knowingly acting against it. Alternatively, a young Gibbs’s choices could help explain why he later adopts a rule.
For each alleged breach, the key evidence is the specific action or line, the exact wording of the rule from a reliable source, and the rule’s place in Gibbs’s chronology. The published synopsis and AP profile do not provide enough detail to make that comparison for three separate rules.
