What happened to Mike Verdu at Netflix?
Netflix confirmed Verdu’s departure to Game File, as reported by Game Developer on March 12, 2025. TheWrap also reported his exit that day.

Verdu joined Netflix in 2021 and previously led Netflix Games. After Alain Tascan took over leadership of the games division in 2024, Verdu moved into the role of vice-president of generative AI for games.
Why did Mike Verdu leave Netflix?
The March 2025 reports confirmed that Verdu had left, but did not establish his reason. They do not support attributing his departure to performance, layoffs, a change in strategy, or a disagreement.

What was Verdu’s generative-AI role intended to do?
In a November 2024 LinkedIn post announcing his role, Verdu described an ambition to put creative professionals at the center of AI-assisted game development. He wrote: “I am focused on a creator-first vision for AI, one that puts creative talent at the center, with AI being a catalyst and an accelerant.”
Verdu said AI could accelerate development and give both larger and smaller teams new capabilities. Those remarks describe his goals; they do not demonstrate that Netflix released a particular AI development tool or game.

Was Verdu replaced, and what happened to the initiative?
When the departure was reported in March 2025, Netflix had not announced a replacement for the generative-AI games role, and the initiative’s future was described as unclear. That is the state of reporting at that time, not confirmation of Netflix’s position in October 2026. The available sources do not establish the initiative’s current status or whether Verdu was later replaced.

In remarks reported by TheWrap in March 2025, Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters said the company saw positive effects from games among members who played them, while describing games’ acquisition and retention effects as “relatively small.” He said Netflix would remain disciplined about scaling investment as the benefits to members grew.

Peters characterized the games market as “approximately $140 billion in consumer spend, ex China, ex Russia, and not even including the ad revenue.” This was his reported estimate, with those exclusions, not an independently validated current market total.
Game Developer reported that Netflix’s catalogue contained more than 80 mobile titles when its March 2025 article was published. That figure is a dated report, not a current catalogue count.
