There is no official, canon-wide ranking of Naruto’s clans. By a qualitative comparison of peak demonstrated members, clan-associated abilities, tactical range and historical influence, the Ōtsutsuki rank first, with the Uchiha and Senju forming the strongest historically documented rivalry. This list uses manga-canon clans and distinguishes a clan’s reputation from extraordinary feats achieved by particular members. Its criteria are editorial, not an official scoring system.
How this Naruto clan ranking works
“Strongest” can mean different things: a clan’s best-known fighter, the abilities associated with its members, the breadth of its tactical options, or its impact on the shinobi world. This ranking weighs all four qualitatively. The sources do not provide comparable clan-wide statistics, so the order is an informed editorial judgment—not a measured result or a canon designation.

The main list focuses on clans represented in manga continuity. It does not include the anime-only Kurama clan in the ranked places. A June 30, 2025 ComicBook.com ranking includes that clan and places it ninth, but identifies it as anime-only. The same article is a secondary ranking, not an official authority on the order.
What is the strongest clan in Naruto?
1. Ōtsutsuki
The Ōtsutsuki take the top spot for the scale of their role in the franchise’s chakra and bloodline lore. ComicBook.com describes them as a source of chakra and many bloodline abilities, and ranks them first. That placement is an editorial interpretation of their influence and abilities, not an official franchise ranking.

2. Uchiha
The Uchiha are one of the two leading powers of the Warring States era, alongside the Senju. VIZ describes the clan as descended from the Sage’s elder son and identifies Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju as “the strongest shinobi of their time.” That statement concerns two individuals and their era; it does not mean every Uchiha approached Madara’s power. ComicBook.com highlights the Sharingan’s versatility and the clan’s combat reputation as further reasons for its high placement.
3. Senju
The Senju share the top historical tier with the Uchiha. The NARUTO Official Site calls them two of the most powerful factions before the hidden villages and recounts Hashirama and Madara’s alliance in founding Konoha. VIZ likewise names Hashirama and Madara the strongest shinobi of their time.
Rank #2
Hashirama was a Senju heir and a Wood Style user; the official site also recounts his battle with Madara while Madara controlled the Nine Tails. Those are extraordinary feats by Hashirama, not evidence that Wood Style was a standard ability of the whole clan. The Uchiha edge the Senju here because of the scale and versatility attributed to their signature abilities, but their relative order is an editorial distinction: the official historical account presents them as rival leading powers, not as a ranked pair.
4. Hyuga
The Hyuga rank highly for a recognizable fighting style with both perception and close-combat applications. ComicBook.com summarizes the Byakugan and Gentle Fist as core clan advantages. Official franchise coverage provides a concrete example in Neji: the NARUTO Official Site’s Neji retrospective identifies him as Hyuga and documents his mastery of signature Eight Trigrams techniques. Neji’s skill demonstrates what an exceptional member could do; it is not, by itself, proof of a clan-wide comparison.

5. Uzumaki
The Uzumaki are associated with vitality, substantial chakra and sealing techniques, according to ComicBook.com. Their history also intersects with the Nine Tails: official coverage records Mito Uzumaki helping control it after Hashirama captured it. Mito’s role is meaningful evidence of the clan’s importance, but jinchuriki power should not be mistaken for an ordinary Uzumaki baseline. Naruto’s later strength likewise cannot be reduced to clan inheritance alone.
6. Nara
The Nara show why strength in Naruto is not limited to inherited eye techniques or raw force. ComicBook.com points to their shadow techniques and tactical intelligence. Their ability to restrain or outmaneuver an opponent can make them strategically valuable even when a direct contest of peak destructive power would favor another clan.
Rank #4
7. Sarutobi
The Sarutobi rank for their standing in the village and the leadership associated with the clan, as summarized by ComicBook.com. That influence matters to a broad measure of strength, though the cited ranking offers less clan-specific combat detail than it does for clans with signature abilities. The placement is therefore less secure than the historical Uchiha–Senju comparison.
8. Kaguya
The Kaguya clan is distinct from the Ōtsutsuki. ComicBook.com points to the clan’s bone-manipulation ability, demonstrated by Kimimaro. His formidable use of that ability supports the clan’s place on the list, but an exceptional fighter’s performance does not establish that every member shared his level of skill or power.

Uchiha vs. Senju: which clan is stronger?
The strongest evidence supports treating the Uchiha and Senju as peers in historical importance and overall standing. The official franchise account calls them two of the most powerful pre-village factions, while VIZ describes Madara and Hashirama as the strongest shinobi of their era. Their rivalry shaped the Warring States period, and their leaders’ alliance helped found the Hidden Leaf.
If the question is which clan wins this particular ranking, the Uchiha place one spot higher because of the versatility and combat reputation associated with the Sharingan. That is a criteria-based editorial choice, not a settled canon verdict. Comparing the clans through Madara and Hashirama alone would confuse two exceptional individuals with the broader strengths of their clans.
Why some popular clan lists need qualification
ComicBook.com’s June 30, 2025 list offers one secondary ordering: Ōtsutsuki, Uchiha, Senju, Hyuga, Uzumaki, Kazekage, Sarutobi, Nara, Kurama and Kaguya. It is useful as an example of how fans and entertainment outlets compare clans, but it should not be read as an official ranking.
Two labels in that list need care. It uses “Kazekage” for a family whose actual clan name it says is unknown, citing Gaara, Temari and Kankuro’s different abilities. And it includes the Kurama clan, which the article identifies as anime-only. A manga-continuity ranking should not present the Kurama clan as a manga-canon entry without that qualification.
