Natalie Portman reportedly left one very cold lake dive in the 2011 comedy Your Highness to a double, Caroline Davis. Contemporary reports commonly put Davis’s fee at £250, but the exact payment has not been confirmed by a production record or a primary interview transcript.
What scene did Natalie Portman reportedly leave to a double?
The story concerns a specific lake-dive shot, not Portman refusing to film an entire scene or the movie. Contemporary accounts distinguish a shot featuring Portman from the dive performed by her double. A French report said Portman explained that she did not want to enter the cold water; Filmibeat likewise described the water as “really, really cold,” while noting that its account did not provide the original interview transcript. La Dépêche / Voici.fr; Filmibeat.
Who performed the dive?
Reports identify Caroline Davis, an Irish film-studies student, as the person who jumped into the lake. Salon said Davis told The Sun she had been hired to do the icy-water jump in Portman’s place. Jezebel reproduced Davis’s reported remark: “I’m a film studies student so I jumped at the chance to be on set.” These accounts relay comments attributed to Davis through other publications rather than providing an independently verified production record. Salon; Jezebel.
How much was the double reportedly paid?
Several 2011 accounts give the fee as £250. Jezebel and Filmibeat attribute that figure to coverage in The Sun or The Daily Mail, rather than citing a payroll record. Jezebel; Filmibeat.
