Perth’s official New Year’s Eve celebration on Wednesday, 31 December 2025, was centred on Elizabeth Quay and Barrack Square, with fireworks announced for 8:30pm and midnight. The City also planned a short midnight rooftop display for Northbridge’s restaurant and bar area. These are historical event details, not plans for a future New Year’s Eve.
Where Perth’s official New Year’s Eve event was held
The City of Perth named Elizabeth Quay and Barrack Square as the main celebration precinct for 31 December 2025. Its program advertised roving performances, live entertainment, festivities and a family-friendly fireworks display at 8:30pm, followed by a midnight display welcoming 2026. City of Perth 2025–26 events plan
The program also mentioned a short midnight fireworks display launched from CBD rooftops for the Northbridge restaurant and bar area. The City materials do not rank viewing locations across Perth or establish that every nearby public spot had an unobstructed view. Nor do they validate locations suitable for watching fireworks from a car.
How the two announced options differed
| Location | What was announced | What the sources establish |
|---|---|---|
| Elizabeth Quay and Barrack Square | A broader event precinct, with entertainment and displays at 8:30pm and midnight. | The main official celebration area; the event map identifies facilities and viewing areas. |
| Northbridge restaurant and bar area | A short midnight display launched from CBD rooftops. | A program mention associated with the restaurant and bar area, not an equivalent public fireworks venue or a guaranteed viewing spot. |
Access, facilities and event arrangements
The City’s map and accessibility guide for the 2025 event marked viewing areas, entertainment, food trucks, sideshow alley, first aid, toilets (including accessible toilets), an accessible viewing area, a sensory space, an assistance-animal relief area and a lost-person point. The guide specified Auslan interpretation and audio description for the 8:30pm display. These were arrangements for that event date; they should not be assumed for later years. Transport and closures for 31 December 2025
The Public Transport Authority announced extra train services, all train lines running through the night and free public transport from 12:01am on 1 January 2026. That was the plan for the 2025–26 celebration, not a current timetable or a promise about future New Year’s Eve services. Public Transport Authority announcement
The City’s event materials listed time-specific closures around Elizabeth Quay. They included Barrack Square ring road from 2pm to 2am, selected streets from 3pm to 2am, and later evening closures on William Street and Birdiya Drive. The map shows the locations and windows, including the Elizabeth Quay bridge closure from noon to 2am and an event exclusion zone from 4pm to 1am. These historical times are not driving instructions for another year. City of Perth event map and accessibility guide
