Sir Alex Ferguson and music executive Alan McGee are two of the best-documented famous Glasgow Rangers supporters. Their connections are supported by an official Rangers interview and McGee’s own statement in a Sky Sports interview. Kenny Dalglish has described being taken to Rangers as a child, but that account does not establish his current allegiance.
How to read this list
“Most famous” is subjective: the available sources do not establish an authoritative ranking or count of celebrity Rangers supporters. The examples below are selected for public recognition and the clarity of the evidence, with childhood connections kept distinct from declared or lifelong support.
| Name | What the source establishes | Type of connection |
|---|---|---|
| Sir Alex Ferguson | Rangers’ official interview describes him as a boyhood supporter who began attending Ibrox around age eight. | Boyhood support |
| Alan McGee | In a Sky Sports interview published April 12, 2011, he directly called himself a Rangers supporter. | First-person declaration in 2011 |
| Kenny Dalglish | His 2026 FourFourTwo profile quotes him recalling that his father took him to Rangers from an early age. | Childhood attendance; current allegiance not established |
| Shabir Beg | Rangers’ official supporter profile describes him as a lifelong fan. | Lifelong support |
Sir Alex Ferguson: a boyhood Rangers supporter
In an interview published by Rangers Football Club, Ferguson recalled growing up in Govan as a Rangers supporter and going to matches with family and friends. He said: “I started going to Ibrox when I was around eight-years-old so in 1949.” The account supports calling him a boyhood fan; it is a recollection of his early life, not a measure of his present-day match attendance.
Alan McGee: “I just support Glasgow Rangers”
Creation Records founder Alan McGee spoke about his Rangers support in a Sky Sports interview with Alex Dunn, published April 12, 2011. Asked about his support, McGee replied: “I just support Glasgow Rangers – is that allowed?” The interview also said he had not seen Rangers for some time then, so it establishes his declaration in that conversation rather than recent attendance.

Kenny Dalglish: a documented childhood connection
FourFourTwo’s 2026 profile of Kenny Dalglish records his memory of being taken to Rangers by his father: “My dad took me to Rangers from an early age – that never caused me any bother later on, you have to support someone when you’re a kid.” That wording describes a childhood connection. It does not, on its own, show that Dalglish currently supports Rangers, so he should not be listed as an unqualified current fan on this evidence.

Rangers’ “Everyone Anyone” profile identifies Shabir Beg as chair of the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society and describes him as a lifelong supporter. Beg explained how he came to support the club: “I was born here and one could say I was born into supporting Rangers as all my pals supported Rangers – and that is the main reason I support Rangers.” He is a clear example of a supporter documented by the club, though not as internationally recognizable as Ferguson.

What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
- Ferguson’s official club interview and McGee’s first-person statement are the strongest evidence here for famous figures’ Rangers connections.
- Dalglish belongs in a discussion of childhood connections, not a list claiming confirmed current allegiance based on the cited profile alone.
- Beg’s profile documents lifelong support, while the sources do not quantify how many celebrities support Rangers or rank them by fame.
