Police arrested country singer Morgan Wallen in Nashville on April 8, 2024, after alleging that he threw a chair from the rooftop of Chief’s, a six-story bar associated with Eric Church. The chair reportedly landed near two officers on Broadway, according to police accounts reported at the time. Wallen initially faced felony booking charges, but the case ended with a December 2024 guilty plea to two misdemeanor reckless-endangerment counts and a sentence of supervised probation and DUI education.
What police said happened
The incident occurred on April 7, 2024, at Chief’s, the downtown Nashville bar associated with country musician Eric Church. Police said a chair was thrown from the rooftop and landed on Broadway near two officers. Wallen was arrested the following day. The account of the chair and where it landed was the police allegation reported in contemporaneous coverage, not a finding established by the initial arrest itself. The Associated Press reported the arrest and police account on April 8, 2024.

What charges did Wallen initially face?
At booking, Wallen was listed as facing three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. These were the initial charges, not the final disposition of the case. His lawyer said at the time that Wallen was cooperating with authorities. CBS News reported the initial charges on April 8, 2024.
How the case ended
On December 12, 2024, Wallen pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. The sentence was seven days in a DUI education center and two years of supervised probation, according to The Associated Press’s report on the plea and sentence. The outcome was a misdemeanor plea; the three felony reckless-endangerment counts and disorderly-conduct count listed at booking should not be described as the final charges or result.

What later-released police footage showed
In reporting published October 1, 2025, the Associated Press said police body-camera footage released by Metro Nashville in response to a public-records request showed Wallen denying to officers that he had thrown the chair. That denial came during the police interaction and should be distinguished from the later court outcome: Wallen pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor reckless-endangerment counts in December 2024. The same AP report also noted that Wallen had publicly accepted responsibility in April 2024. These statements occurred at different points in the case and are not interchangeable. The Associated Press reported on the footage and chronology on October 1, 2025.
