When the Bidens appeared
ABC announced on May 1, 2025, that Joe and Jill Biden would appear live in the studio on Thursday, May 8, from 11 a.m. to noon EDT. ABC described it as their first interview since leaving the White House in January 2025. The planned discussion included life after the presidency, Biden’s legacy, Democrats’ election losses and the political landscape.

What they discussed
In its May 8 report, ABC News said Joe Biden accepted some responsibility for Donald Trump’s 2024 victory while maintaining that he would have beaten Trump if he had stayed in the race. He discussed the election, Kamala Harris’s loss, the border, cost of living and reports about his cognitive condition.
Asked whether he accepted some blame for the result, Biden said, “I do, because, look, I was in charge and he won. So, you know, I take responsibility.” That is his stated view of responsibility, not independent proof of what caused the election outcome.
Rank #2
Responding to reports of cognitive decline, Biden said, “They are wrong. There’s nothing to sustain that.” The statement records his response to those reports; it does not independently resolve the dispute. ABC News also reported that Jill Biden defended her role and discussed future women’s health research.
