Minecraft’s “Lava Chicken” music disc is earned in-game by finding and defeating a chicken jockey. Update to the latest release available for your edition, then check whether the disc is available in your version: Mojang’s June 25, 2025 announcement said it was live on Java Edition and coming soon to Bedrock, which describes the launch period rather than confirming today’s Bedrock status.
How to get the Lava Chicken disc
- Update your game. Install the latest release offered for the edition you play. Mojang’s announcement instructed players to update, but its edition-availability details date to June 25, 2025.
- Find and defeat a chicken jockey. Mojang identifies this as the way to obtain the disc. The method was also described in GameSpot’s July 16, 2025 report.
- Play the disc in a jukebox. Put the disc in a jukebox block to hear it; Mojang’s music disc explainer describes the jukebox as the playback device.
The official announcement does not establish a drop percentage or guarantee how often chicken jockeys appear. It also says Minecraft: Java or Bedrock Edition is required and sold separately; buying the film soundtrack does not unlock the in-game item.
Is the disc available on Java and Bedrock?
At launch, Mojang said the disc was available on Java Edition and that Bedrock availability was coming soon. That statement is historical, not confirmation of the current status on either edition. Check the latest release notes or update information for the edition you play before setting out to find it; the current Bedrock version was not established by the sources cited here.
What song is the disc based on?
The disc is called “Lava Chicken.” Its movie counterpart, “Steve’s Lava Chicken,” appears as track 7 on WaterTower Music’s A Minecraft Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), released March 28, 2025, with Jack Black credited as performer.

The in-game disc is an adaptation, not the soundtrack recording itself. GameSpot reported that the game version was remixed by Hyper Potions, while the WaterTower listing identifies Jack Black’s movie track. The soundtrack and the Minecraft item are separate.
What does “made Billboard’s Hot 100” mean?
GameSpot reported that the 34-second “Steve’s Lava Chicken” cracked the Billboard Hot 100 and described it as the shortest song to do so. The sources cited here do not establish the precise chart week or rank, so neither is stated here.
