The $1 increase in Max’s monthly ad-free prices took effect on June 4, 2024. At that time, the monthly Ad-Free plan rose from $15.99 to $16.99, and Ultimate Ad-Free rose from $19.99 to $20.99. Those are historical U.S. prices—not current pricing—and the annual plans had separate increases.
Which Max plans went up by $1 a month?
A 2024 report said the increase applied to the two monthly ad-free tiers then offered. It did not mean every Max plan or billing option went up by exactly $1.

These figures and the June 4, 2024 effective date were reported by Yahoo Entertainment. Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2023 Max launch announcement listed the standard Ad-Free tier at $15.99 per month or $149.99 per year, establishing the earlier monthly baseline; it does not make the 2024 annual price change equivalent to $1 per month.
Did annual Max plans also rise by $1?
No. The 2024 report described separate increases for annual subscriptions. The $1 figure refers to the monthly price change for each of the two ad-free tiers, not a flat $1 increase to every billing period. Annual and monthly charges should be compared using the actual renewal price and billing term shown for your subscription.

Are $16.99 and $20.99 Max’s current prices?
No. Those amounts describe the prices after the 2024 change. A later report documented another U.S. price increase in 2025, so the 2024 figures should not be used as a current price quote. Max’s U.S. plan help page describes Basic with Ads, Standard, and Premium, but the prices displayed there may lag subsequent changes. For the amount that applies now, check your account or latest billing notice.
How to check who bills your Max subscription
Your billing provider matters: Max says plan changes depend on who manages the subscription. Check the subscription details in your Max account, or review the account or bill for the company that charges you. If a third party bills the subscription, use that provider’s account settings for plan changes and billing questions.

What to compare before changing plans
Max’s official plan information distinguishes tiers by features as well as price. Before switching, check the current terms attached to your account rather than relying on the historical 2024 amounts.
- Whether the plan includes ads.
- How many simultaneous streams it allows.
- Its supported resolution.
- Whether offline downloads are included.
- Whether you pay monthly or annually, and the renewal amount for that term.
- Whether a bundle or third-party billing arrangement affects your plan or change options.
