Mel Schilling, the relationship expert on Married At First Sight in the UK and Australia, died aged 54 on 24 March 2026, her family announced. Earlier that month, she had said her colon cancer had spread to her brain and that her oncology team had no further treatment to offer. ITV News reported her family’s announcement; RTÉ reported her March update.
What Mel Schilling said in her March 2026 update
Schilling said her cancer had spread to the left side of her brain. She described headaches and numbness down her right side before learning of the spread. After 16 rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she said her oncology team had told her there was nothing further they could do to treat the cancer.
In the update reported by RTÉ, Schilling said: “After many tests I was told the cancer had spread to the left side of my brain and, despite subsequent radiotherapy sessions, my oncology team have now told me there is nothing further they can do.”
She also urged people to seek medical attention if they were concerned: “If something doesn’t feel right, please get it checked out. It might just save your life.” This was her personal appeal, not specific screening guidance.

What is known about her cancer
Schilling’s diagnosis was reported as colon cancer; some UK coverage uses “bowel cancer” as a broader term. Public accounts describe the cancer spreading from her colon to her lungs and later her brain. They do not establish a specific stage, subtype, genetic profile or cause of death, so those details should not be inferred.
Her symptoms are part of her personal account, not a way to diagnose cancer in someone else. Anyone worried about symptoms should seek advice from a medical professional; screening recommendations depend on individual circumstances and location.
