Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended the George Zajfen Tennis Tournament in Los Angeles on October 18, 2025. Reports said Markle wiped away tears as she listened to her friend Kelly McKee Zajfen speak. The annual event honors Zajfen’s son George and supports organizations serving children and families.
What happened at the tournament?
The Independent reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the tournament on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Los Angeles. Markle was seen wiping her eyes while listening to Zajfen, according to accounts cited by The Independent and Us Weekly.
That visible gesture does not establish what Markle was feeling or why she reacted that way. The reports reviewed do not include a direct explanation from her. Us Weekly reported that Markle posted the caption “Proudly supporting the George Zajfen Tennis Tournament” on Instagram Stories and that Zajfen thanked the Sussexes for their support.
Who was George Zajfen, and what does the event support?
The tournament honors George, Kelly McKee Zajfen’s son, who died in July 2022 at age nine. According to The Independent, proceeds support the Alliance for Children’s Rights and the Alliance of Moms. Zajfen co-founded the Alliance of Moms, a community that aids pregnant and parenting young people in Los Angeles’s foster-care system.

An Archewell Foundation statement reproduced by The Independent said the foundation was supporting the tournament for a second year. It described the event as raising funds for the Alliance for Children’s Rights, whose work includes safe homes, quality education and holistic support for children and families. The statement also said the Alliance was founded in 1992 and provides free legal services.
How much did the tournament raise?
Us Weekly reported that Zajfen said the event raised $200,000 for young people in Los Angeles and across California, citing her Instagram post. The outlet’s report does not establish that the total was independently audited.
