Did Mark Duplass say the nudity was liberating?
Not in the direct interview cited here. A GeekChamp article published February 18, 2026 uses that framing, but its available text does not provide a direct quote or identify an attributable source for it. Duplass’s November 13, 2024 interview with Fangoria writer Amber T uses different language: he says the point was to unsettle the audience.

That distinction matters: “liberating” should not be presented as Duplass’s confirmed description of the experience on the basis of these sources. His stated intention and his comments about parity are directly attributable; the personal characterization is not.
Why is Mark Duplass nude in The Creep Tapes?
Duplass said the nudity was meant to make viewers uncomfortable. Explaining the idea behind exposing his “ageing, male nude body,” he told Fangoria: “For me, it was the idea that I would thrust my ageing, male nude body upon people and make them uncomfortable with it… that felt like the perfect use of nudity.”

He also argued for greater parity between male and female nudity in horror: “I do believe there should be, at the very least, an equality of sorts. Any time a pair of boobs come out, let’s whip out a pair of balls, you know?”
Duplass and co-creator Patrick Brice came to the franchise as documentary filmmakers interested in interpersonal feelings, he explained in the interview. He distinguished the discomfort they sought from nudity positioned near the exploitation of women. His comments describe a deliberate dramatic choice, not a general claim that nudity is effective only as a shock tactic.

How The Creep Tapes fits the Creep franchise
The Creep Tapes is a found-footage horror series starring Duplass, who co-created it with Patrick Brice. In a TVLine interview published November 15, 2024, Duplass said they had struggled to find the right concept for a third feature-length Creep film. They realized shorter episodes could explore the collection of tapes instead. TVLine described the first season as six episodes, each slightly under 30 minutes.

AMC Global Media’s August 3, 2026 announcement says the six-episode third season begins September 15, 2026, with a two-episode premiere, and streams exclusively on Shudder and AMC+.
