Letterboxd’s Video Store debuted on December 10, 2025, with four festival titles on its limited-time Unreleased Gems shelf: It Ends, Sore: A Wife from the Future, Kennedy, and The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo. That original shelf window ended January 9, 2026, so its launch availability should not be mistaken for current rental access. The Video Store is a rental service, not a monthly subscription; today’s catalog and prices vary by location.
What films were on Letterboxd’s launch Unreleased Gems shelf?
The four-film selection paired festival discoveries with distinct genres and premises. Their launch territories were not identical, and the country lists below describe availability during the original December 2025–January 2026 window, not present-day access.

Letterboxd announced the launch on December 10, 2025 (ET), and its official collection list confirms the Unreleased Gems window ran through January 9, 2026 (ET). The four titles were described as exclusive to the Video Store in the countries where they were shown during that window. Letterboxd’s launch announcement and its Unreleased Gems collection list document the selection and dates.
What is Letterboxd Video Store?
Video Store is Letterboxd’s transactional film-rental platform, organized around curated shelves rather than only a single undifferentiated catalog. Letterboxd says shelves can surface festival films that have not yet been distributed, long-watchlisted titles that have become available, restorations and rediscoveries, and limited-time previews or unreleased gems. Its programming uses member watchlists, reviews, and other signals. The company’s primer puts the model plainly: “This isn’t a subscription service! No lock-in, no paywall.” Letterboxd’s Video Store primer explains the shelves and rental model.

Viewers can watch through the web, on a phone, or on a TV via casting, according to the official Video Store page. No monthly fee does not mean unlimited viewing: rentals are individual transactions.
Can you rent the four launch films now?
The original Unreleased Gems promotion ended January 9, 2026. That does not establish whether any one of the four films has since returned or become available through another listing: the current Video Store catalog changes, and availability depends on location. Check the current Video Store catalog for a specific title in your country rather than relying on its launch-era territory list.

Letterboxd’s pricing FAQ says prices for new and unreleased titles are set with reference to standard digital rental prices in each country; the price and available films vary by title and region. Letterboxd also says a portion of each rental goes to the participating people behind the film. The pricing FAQ, updated September 30, 2026, provides the current pricing explanation.
In a July 2026 explanation of rentals, Letterboxd said viewers have 30 days after renting to start a film and 48 hours to finish once playback begins. These are the viewing terms described in that article; check the current rental information for the specific listing before paying, since terms can be updated. Letterboxd’s July 2026 Unreleased Gems article describes that rental window.
