Liam Bartlett announced in late September 2022 that he would leave his roles at Nine: presenting 6PR’s Mornings program in Perth and reporting for 60 Minutes. Contemporary coverage said he would remain with Nine until November. The announcement concerned those positions; it did not establish that he was retiring from journalism altogether.
What Bartlett announced
A statement read by colleague Mark Gibson on Friday evening said Bartlett would leave both 6PR and 60 Minutes. PerthNow reported the announcement on 1 October 2022; The West Australian’s separately indexed report was dated 30 September. Campaign Brief WA said Bartlett would remain with Nine until November.
PerthNow reported Bartlett describing his 6PR role as “a real privilege and an honour” to present the morning program in his home state. Of 60 Minutes, he said the role had afforded him “so many memorable moments” and that he was appreciative of the opportunities. PerthNow’s 1 October 2022 report carries the reproduced statements.
Which roles were ending?
| Role | Program and medium | What the announcement said |
|---|---|---|
| Presenter | Mornings, 6PR radio in Perth | Bartlett would leave the presenting role. |
| Reporter | 60 Minutes, Nine television | Bartlett would leave his reporting role. |
These were two separate roles at Nine, not one position. Nine’s 2020 lineup announcement said Bartlett would return to 6PR as Mornings host in 2021 while continuing to file stories for 60 Minutes. Nine’s announcement describes that arrangement.

Bartlett’s career at Nine
Nine’s profile describes Bartlett as having spent more than 30 years working in Australian media across television, radio and print. It says he officially rejoined 60 Minutes in January 2016. Campaign Brief WA, reporting in 2022, described him as having joined the program in 2006. Those dates may refer to different phases of his tenure, so they should not be collapsed into a claim of uninterrupted service. Nine’s profile provides its career summary.

PerthNow’s headline used the word “retirement,” but the reporting establishes that Bartlett was leaving his 6PR and 60 Minutes roles at Nine. It does not establish a retirement from journalism as a profession, nor does it document what he did professionally after leaving those positions. The most precise description is that he announced his departure from the two Nine roles in 2022.
