The first Marvel-inspired Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair Superdrop announced at New York Comic Con on October 18, 2024, featured Captain America, Black Panther, Iron Man, Wolverine, and Storm. Hasbro also said that Spider-Man would lead the partnership’s first tentpole Magic set, then targeted for release in 2025. Later Marvel Magic releases expanded the story beyond that initial reveal.
Which Marvel characters were in the original Secret Lair reveal?
Hasbro named five heroes for the first Marvel-inspired Secret Lair Superdrop: Captain America, Black Panther, Iron Man, Wolverine, and Storm. The announcement introduced them as the first Marvel cards coming to players through Secret Lair, a distinct product line from the tentpole Magic sets also planned under the partnership. Hasbro’s October 18, 2024 announcement did not present these five as the full roster for every Marvel-themed Magic product.
What did Hasbro announce about Spider-Man?
The same 2024 announcement identified Marvel’s Spider-Man as the subject of the partnership’s first tentpole Magic: The Gathering set, with a 2025 release target. That date describes the roadmap stated at the time of the announcement; it should not be mistaken for a complete or current account of later Marvel products.
How did the Marvel partnership develop?
A multi-year, multi-set collaboration
In October 2023, Hasbro described its agreement with Marvel as a multi-year, multi-set collaboration intended to bring Marvel characters and stories to Magic through collectible products and tentpole sets. The original Secret Lair announcement was therefore one part of a broader partnership, rather than a standalone crossover. Read Hasbro’s October 23, 2023 partnership announcement.

Later Marvel Super Heroes cards
Wizards of the Coast’s Marvel Super Heroes card list, published June 12, 2026, includes named cards for Black Panther, Storm, and Iron Man alongside a broader Marvel roster. It documents a later Marvel-themed Magic set and shows that the original five-character Secret Lair reveal was not the full extent of the collaboration.

A separate later Secret Lair drop
Wizards’ September 2026 announcement for Secret Lair: A Perfectly Normal Superdrop also featured Marvel heroes and pets. What the announcements do—and do not—tell collectors

They do not establish current prices, resale value, tournament legality, or physical-card availability. For context, Hasbro’s October 23, 2023 partnership announcement said that Magic: The Gathering had “more than 50 million fans to date” and was published in “more than 150 countries.” Those are company-reported figures from that dated announcement, not independently verified counts. The same release quoted Cynthia Williams, then President of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Digital Gaming, saying, “We are extremely proud to collaborate with Marvel to bring its iconic characters to fans around the world in new ways,” and Dan Buckley, then President of Marvel Comics and Franchise, saying, “Trading cards have always been a part of Marvel’s DNA, so this collaboration takes that experience to a whole new level.” Both remarks appeared in the 2023 partnership announcement, not at the 2024 character reveal.
