Kim Kardashian announced on November 8, 2025, that she had failed her first attempt at the California bar exam. She said she would keep studying and try again. Her exact score and how many points, if any, separated it from a passing result have not been reported.
Did Kim Kardashian fail the California bar exam?
Yes. Kardashian announced that she had not passed her first attempt in a statement reported by the Los Angeles Times on November 8, 2025. The announcement concerned her 2025 exam attempt; it was not a new result in 2026.
What did Kim Kardashian say after failing?
In the Instagram statement quoted by the Times, Kardashian wrote, “Well… I’m not a lawyer yet, I just play a very well-dressed one on TV.” She added that she was “still all in until I pass the bar” and would continue studying, with “no shortcuts, no giving up.”
How close was Kim Kardashian to passing?
Kardashian described herself as “so close to passing,” but the cited report does not give her score or a numerical gap. The State Bar’s general grading rules cannot be used to infer her individual result.

Did Kim Kardashian go to law school?
No. She pursued California’s law-office apprenticeship route rather than attending law school. The Associated Press reported in May 2025 that she had completed her apprenticeship and was eligible to take the bar exam. Her mentor, attorney Jessica Jackson, described the commitment as “18 hours a week, 48 weeks a year for six straight years.” Completing the apprenticeship made Kardashian eligible to sit for the exam; it did not make her a licensed attorney.
What is on the California bar exam?
The California General Bar Exam combines written work with multiple-choice questions. According to the State Bar of California’s grading guidance, it includes:
- Five essay questions.
- One performance test, in which applicants work with a file and legal authorities to address a fact pattern. Grading guidance says responses are assessed for following instructions, content, thoroughness, and organization.
- The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), with 200 multiple-choice questions.
How California scores the exam
The State Bar’s published guidance sets the passing threshold at a total scaled score of 1,390 out of 2,000. Under its first-read process, scores below 1,350 fail; scores from 1,350 to below 1,390 receive a second read, and the two readings are averaged. Applicants who fail receive their written-answer grades and MBE scaled score through the Applicant Portal. These general rules do not reveal Kardashian’s score.

The 2025 announcement establishes the result of Kardashian’s first attempt and her intention to continue studying, not the outcome of a later exam. As of October 8, 2026, the State Bar’s results schedule listed the July 2026 exam results for release on October 30, 2026, a date that had not yet arrived.
