A clip from Nico Ballesteros’s documentary In Whose Name? shows Kanye West performing a verse for Drake in 2018. Rolling Stone India identified it as a demo version of “Wouldn’t Leave”; Drake reacts enthusiastically, telling West, “that verse is crazy.”
What song does Kanye West perform for Drake?
Rolling Stone India’s September 16, 2025 report identifies the verse in the clip as a demo of West’s “Wouldn’t Leave.” The demo was initially recorded for the scrapped project Love Everyone. A different, released version of “Wouldn’t Leave,” featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR, appeared on West’s 2018 album Ye.
What does Drake say in the clip?
As quoted in Rolling Stone India’s report, Drake responds: “that verse is crazy,” then adds, “I know what that is, I get excited about those.” The exchange comes across as appreciative, with Drake recognizing the kind of verse West is performing.
What is the context of the 2018 footage?
The report describes the scene as footage filmed in 2018, in an apparent studio space, with West performing for Drake. It captures a positive moment before the two later clashed publicly that year. Rolling Stone India connected the later tension to Drake’s dispute with Pusha T, who was then affiliated with West’s G.O.O.D. Music; that brief context does not establish every cause of their disagreements.

How does the clip fit into In Whose Name??
Director Nico Ballesteros’s documentary follows six years of West’s life. Rolling Stone India reported that Ballesteros began recording more than 3,000 hours of footage and followed West across activities including his fashion brand and Sunday School gospel events, as well as his 2020 presidential campaign and public controversies. The hours figure and the film’s reported scope come from that account, rather than an independent audit of the footage.
