Sukuna defeats Mahoraga by changing tactics: after Malevolent Shrine’s slashing attacks show that Mahoraga has adapted to slashes, Sukuna uses his flame technique to destroy it before it can recover.
Why Sukuna’s slashes were no longer enough
Mahoraga’s adaptation is the turning point. Sukuna attacks it with Malevolent Shrine’s slashes, then recognizes that Mahoraga has adapted to that kind of attack. Continuing with slashes is no longer a reliable way to finish the fight.

The scene does not establish that Mahoraga is invulnerable to every attack or that it adapts without limit. The specific problem Sukuna faces is adaptation to the slashing attacks used against it in this fight.
How Sukuna finishes the fight
- He identifies the adaptation. Sukuna realizes that Mahoraga has adapted to slashing attacks.
- He switches attack type. Rather than relying on more slashes, he uses his flame technique.
- He acts before Mahoraga recovers. The chapter summary describes the timing as crucial: Sukuna needs to land the different attack before Mahoraga can recover. The flames destroy Mahoraga.
In short, Sukuna wins through a tactical change—recognize the adaptation, use a different kind of attack, and finish the fight before Mahoraga recovers. The fight sequence is summarized in the chapter 119 entry; consult the licensed chapter for exact dialogue and panel details.
