Jugnuma is a Hindi feature by writer-director Raam Reddy, set in the late 1980s in the Himalayas. Its trailer follows Dev, an orchard owner played by Manoj Bajpayee, as mysterious fires threaten his trees and stir suspicion. The winged imagery adds to the film’s uncanny mood, but the trailer does not confirm what it means or explain the fires.
What is happening in the Jugnuma trailer?
Dev’s orchard is at the center of the mystery. When trees begin burning, he tries to find out what is happening; the trailer also points toward secrets within his family and a story shaped by folklore. Its images are deliberately unsettling, so the winged figure is best read as an unanswered part of the film’s imagery—not proof of a specific supernatural explanation.

The trailer establishes a suspenseful question rather than resolving it: are the fires the result of human actions, something beyond ordinary explanation, or a mixture of the two? It does not identify a culprit. The Hollywood Reporter India places the story in spring 1989, while the broader setting is the late-1980s Himalayas. The Hollywood Reporter India’s trailer feature describes the film’s setting and uncanny premise.
Why are the orchard trees catching fire?
The fires are the engine of the suspense, but the trailer does not give a definitive cause. They push Dev to investigate and unsettle the relationships around him. The mystery connects the orchard’s danger with family truths and folklore; viewers should not treat any single trailer image as the answer.

Director Raam Reddy has described a real forest fire as the story’s starting point. In an interview with The Indian Express, he said the fire grew from an experience helping locals douse a forest fire during a trip to Uttarakhand: “That fire was the narrative seed and it brought everything together.” That real-world spark explains the motif’s origin, not the fictional cause of the fires in Jugnuma. The official trailer page says the film was shot entirely on film and that the VFX team crafted more than 500 shots. Those are production claims from credited VFX studio Shapeshifter.Digital, not independently audited figures. They offer a sense of the production’s visual approach, but they do not explain the winged imagery or settle whether the story’s mystery is supernatural.
