Whether it is “any good” depends on how much you want from the group: this is a confident, high-energy record, not a reinvention. The Associated Press praised its speed, guitar interplay and Rob Halford’s vocals, though that is one critic’s assessment rather than a broad consensus.

Is the album any good?
As a late-career heavy metal record, its appeal is straightforward: speed, impact and a full-throttle performance. The opening run establishes that approach quickly, while the rest of the album sustains the traditional metal focus rather than shifting toward a radically different sound.
In its March 5, 2024 review, the Associated Press described the album as “rocking faster and harder than ever before” and singled out the first three tracks, twin-guitar harmonies, Richie Faulkner’s playing and Halford’s vocals. That contemporary review is a useful critical reference, not evidence of a wider critical consensus.

What are the best songs on Invincible Shield?
The opening three songs—“Panic Attack,” “The Serpent and the King” and “Invincible Shield”—are the clearest starting point for listeners drawn to the record’s most immediately forceful stretch. The AP review also highlights that sequence and the interplay between the guitars. “Crown of Horns” offers a change of pace within the standard track list, while “Giants in the Sky” closes the album.
