That distinction matters: a friendship, a warm comment about a co-star, and a professional relationship are not interchangeable. The public record is strongest on Parsons’s friendship with Zachary Quinto, while other examples show positive connections without proving a closest-friend status.
Zachary Quinto: a publicly documented friendship
Parsons and Quinto had known each other socially for years before they worked together in the 2018 Broadway revival of The Boys in the Band. Their collaboration deepened the relationship. In a 2021 interview with The Guardian, Parsons recalled, “We had so many people in common for so many years, but we didn’t really have our own thing until we started working together.” Quinto described the change that came from performing together: “I’d always enjoyed hanging out, but there’s something much deeper that happens when you show up for somebody every night on stage.”

Quinto also characterized the bond as dependable in a 2021 Salon interview: “The foundation is comfort with Jim. It’s reliable, it’s trustworthy.” Parsons said he reached out to Quinto because he wanted him to play the counterpart to his own role. Taken together, their own accounts and sustained work together make Quinto the clearest publicly documented friend in this coverage—not proof of a formal ranking of Parsons’s closest friends.
Rihanna: a warmly praised collaborator, not a confirmed close friend
Parsons voiced admiration for Rihanna’s wit and warmth after they worked together on the animated film Home. In a 2015 The Big Issue interview, he spoke positively about her. The interview documents a favorable impression formed through collaboration; it does not establish that they were close personal friends.

Michael Ausiello: rapport and a professional connection
A 2022 Washington Post profile describes Parsons’s rapport with journalist Michael Ausiello. Parsons supported an event for Ausiello’s memoir before becoming involved in the film adaptation, Spoiler Alert. This supports describing them as having a meaningful connection and working relationship. The profile does not identify Ausiello as one of Parsons’s closest friends or provide a ranked list.
What Parsons has said about friendship
In a 2015 conversation with The Big Issue, Parsons said, “I think in many ways friendship is much more important.” That expresses a general view of friendship, not the names of his closest friends. It should not be used to fill out a list the interview does not supply.

The available sources do not substantiate a named celebrity feud or show that Parsons avoids anyone. An episode listing from Bravo refers to Parsons and B.J. Novak sharing celebrity-snubbing stories, but it does not name a person Parsons snubbed or establish an ongoing conflict: Bravo’s episode listing is not evidence for an “avoids” list.
In a 2015 interview, Parsons told The Irish Times he was “quite the opposite of unapproachable.” That comment does not rule out private disagreements, but it offers no support for claims that he avoids particular people.
