In a 2025 interview on A Life of Greatness, former Geelong player Jimmy Bartel said he had never commented on his separation from Nadia Bartel and did not intend to do so. He said he would focus on the people close to him rather than other people’s opinions. The comments, reported by PerthNow, offer a clear account of his public stance—not an explanation of why the marriage ended.
What Jimmy Bartel said about the separation
PerthNow reported on August 6, 2025, that Bartel discussed public interest in his separation during an episode of A Life of Greatness with host Sarah Grynberg. The publication presented the remarks as his first substantive comments on the separation. PerthNow quoted him saying: “I’ve never commented on anything to do about my separation. I never will because I just don’t think it’s needed. And so just go about my business.”
He also said: “And other people’s opinion on me is none of my business. And so they’ll form their own narrative, their own thinking or their own thought.” Describing where he chose to put his attention, Bartel added: “The only thing that matters to me is the people that I care about and I just foster those relationships, and it can be tough at times.” These quotations are reproduced as PerthNow reported them; no direct podcast transcript or primary episode page was available to verify the wording against the audio. What is established about the split—and what is not
PerthNow described Bartel and Nadia Bartel’s marriage as lasting five years. 7NEWS reported that their separation was announced in 2019. Those reports establish the public announcement year, not the precise date the couple privately separated. The cited coverage does not establish a definitive private cause for the split, so speculation about why it ended should not be treated as fact.

PerthNow reported that the former couple have two sons, Aston and Henley. In a statement after the separation, Nadia Bartel said: “My single focus now is to continue to protect, care for, and provide for my two beautiful boys as this is a personal matter. I am so thankful for my very supportive family and friends.” In 2023, 7NEWS reported that she had said she kept the Bartel surname because of her cultural background and because she wanted the same surname as her boys. These are details reported at those dates, not a broader update on the family’s current circumstances. PerthNow on the family and Nadia Bartel’s statement; 7NEWS on the surname
A privacy request that predates the 2025 interview
Bartel had asked for privacy in 2019, when the separation became public. WHO quoted him saying: “I know I am in the public eye and people are interested, but it is a private matter and I ask for a bit of respect because obviously Nadia and the boys [are] involved.” His 2025 position was consistent with that boundary: he acknowledged public interest but said he did not intend to discuss private details. Why the distinction matters
Bartel’s interview addresses how he responds to public attention, not the circumstances of the marriage’s end. The dated reports document the public announcement and statements by both Bartels, but they do not establish a definitive account of private events. Keeping those points separate avoids turning a stated privacy boundary into an invitation to speculate.
