Jennifer Garner’s documented Oklahoma connection is through her mother, Pat, who grew up on a farm in Locust Grove. Garner has described her mother’s childhood there as very poor. In 2018, CBS reported that Garner had bought the farm and that her uncle still lived there; the story also connected the property to her company, Once Upon a Farm, at that time.

Where is Jennifer Garner’s family farm?

The farm is in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, where Garner’s mother grew up. In a PBS interview, Garner recalled: “My mom grew up really poor in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, on a farm.” Read the PBS interview.

Did Jennifer Garner grow up in Oklahoma?

The available accounts establish her mother’s childhood in Oklahoma, not Garner’s own. It is more accurate to describe Locust Grove as part of Garner’s maternal family history than to say she grew up there.

What was the farm’s connection to Once Upon a Farm?

In July 2018, CBS reported that Garner had purchased the farm where her mother grew up and that her uncle still lived there. CBS also reported that the property was then being used to create ingredients for Once Upon a Farm, the baby-food company Garner co-founded. That account is specific to the period of the 2018 report; it does not establish current ownership or current ingredient sourcing. Read the CBS report.

Garner described the family meaning of the decision: “Well, first of all, if I had any idea how happy it would make my mom to be part of bringing this little farm back to life, I would have done it 10 times over.” She also said, “Your family just has a connection to the land that has raised them. And I just wanted to be connected. I wanted the business to be connected to my family.” Both comments refer to the farm and circumstances discussed in the 2018 interview.

How to start researching an Oklahoma family connection

For readers tracing their own Oklahoma roots, the Oklahoma Historical Society’s genealogy resources offer a practical starting point. Its holdings and guides include cemetery books, birth, death and marriage indexes, family and county histories, land resources, and subscription materials available at its research center. The society recommends using a pedigree chart to organize names, relationships and research notes, and provides chart forms. Explore the Oklahoma Historical Society’s genealogy resources.

Use Ok2Explore as an index, not proof by itself

Ok2Explore is the state’s searchable index for limited birth and death information, not a complete family-history collection. Its official page says included birth records are more than 20 years old and included death records are more than five years old; access to certified records is subject to state rules. The index is updated monthly, and the state warns that reporting, transcription or handwriting errors can appear. Treat a result as a lead to verify against underlying records or other sources.
