Jennifer Garner on Working-Parent Guilt and Co-Parenting With Ben Affleck

Garner’s reported guilt concerned working while parenting. Her separate co-parenting comments and remarks about feeling caught in the middle do not establish that the marriage caused a co-parenting struggle.

Jennifer Garner’s reported guilt was about working while raising her children—not a stated struggle to co-parent with Ben Affleck after his marriage to Jennifer Lopez. In a July 2026 interview appearance, Garner reflected on feeling guilty when her children were younger and urged working mothers to let that guilt go. Her separate comments about co-parenting and feeling caught in the middle of Affleck and Lopez’s relationship belong to different interviews and should not be treated as a single cause-and-effect story.

What Jennifer Garner said about guilt and work

OK! reported on July 13, 2026, that Garner discussed working and parenting during an appearance on TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, while promoting the Peacock series Five Star Weekend. Recounting the years when her children were younger, she said, “When they were younger, I struggled with this so much.” The report presents that remark as referring to guilt about working while parenting.

Garner also said, “Work is part of life,” and, “I like to work. I’m a worker bee.” Her advice to working mothers, as quoted by OK!, was: “Let go of the guilt, it doesn’t serve anyone.” These are reported interview excerpts; the original broadcast transcript is not available in the coverage cited here. What the guilt comment does—and does not—say about co-parenting

The July report describes Garner and Affleck as sharing three children, but it does not connect her work-related guilt to Affleck or Lopez. It does not say that Lopez’s marriage to Affleck caused Garner’s guilt, or that Garner said she was struggling to co-parent. Those conclusions go beyond the reported remarks.

Garner’s separate comments about co-parenting with Affleck

In remarks reported in January 2026, Garner described her co-parenting relationship with Affleck in positive terms. CinemaBlend, citing an interview with Marie Claire UK, quoted her saying she could co-parent “with peace and equanimity” and describing a partnership she had not expected to regain. She also spoke of time as an opportunity to heal, forgive, and find a new way to be friends. CinemaBlend’s report on the Marie Claire UK interview.

Affleck likewise praised Garner as a co-parent in comments reported by Good Morning America in March 2025. Quoting his interview with GQ, GMA reported that he called her “a really good co-parent and partner,” adding that they “work together well.” Good Morning America’s March 2025 report.

What Garner said about feeling caught in the middle

A different subject came up in Garner’s February 2026 interview with Flaunt. The Daily Beast reported that she said she had been “in the middle of something for a really long time” during Affleck and Lopez’s second relationship. The same report said Garner declined to speak for Affleck, Lopez, or her children about their experiences. Her remark supports describing her sense of being caught in a difficult public and family context; it does not establish that she said she struggled to co-parent. The Daily Beast’s report on the Flaunt interview.

For timeline context, GMA reported that Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024, after two years of marriage. The Daily Beast reported that the divorce was finalized in January 2025. These events provide context for the later interview coverage, but they do not establish a cause for Garner’s work-related guilt or a private co-parenting dispute.

An earlier comment about parenting and an ex

In a 2023 Variety Actors on Actors conversation with Sheryl Lee Ralph, Garner agreed with Ralph’s comments about maintaining a healthy relationship with an ex for children’s well-being. Garner called the “mess of parenting” a gift. This was an earlier, separate reflection—not a comment about the 2026 report of work-related guilt. Variety’s 2023 conversation.

How to read the comments without conflating them

  • Work and parenting: Garner’s guilt remark, reported in July 2026, concerned balancing her work and parenting when her children were younger.
  • Co-parenting: In comments reported in January 2026, she described co-parenting with Affleck as peaceful and spoke of a partnership.
  • Affleck and Lopez: In a separate February 2026 interview, she described feeling in the middle of their relationship context while declining to speak for them or her children.
  • Limits of the record: These are interview remarks reproduced by secondary reporting, not a complete account of the family’s private arrangements.
