John Leguizamo’s “first leading role on TV” refers to Gordon Rogers in The Green Veil, an eight-episode historical thriller set in 1950s America. In a 2024 Collider interview, Leguizamo said that finding a complex starring role as a Latino man had taken time; creator and showrunner Aram Rappaport described writing the series for him and building a network to give it a home.
What Leguizamo’s “first leading role on TV” means
The phrase comes from a Collider interview published April 30, 2024. Collider’s video listing calls The Green Veil Leguizamo’s first-ever starring role in a television series, while the interview transcript describes it as his first dramatic leading role in a series. The wording differs slightly, but both refer to the same project—not a separate Leguizamo show.
In the interview, Leguizamo spoke with Rappaport and co-stars John Ortiz, Hani Furstenberg, and Isabelle Poloner. The published interview transcript and Collider Interviews video listing provide the source and context for the discussion.
Who Gordon Rogers is in The Green Veil
The Green Veil is an eight-episode historical thriller. Leguizamo plays Gordon Rogers, a Latino federal agent trying to reconcile the American Dream with personal turmoil and oppression in 1950s America. Rappaport created and showran the series. The interview also identifies John Ortiz, Hani Furstenberg, Irene Bedard, and Isabelle Poloner among the cast.

Why Leguizamo says it took so long
When asked, “How did it take this long?”, Leguizamo pointed to the difficulty he experienced finding complex starring parts as a Latino man in Hollywood. He put it this way: “It’s been difficult being a Latin man in the industry in Hollywouldn’t.”
That is Leguizamo’s account of his experience, not an independently measured assessment of the industry. Rappaport offered a complementary explanation of how this particular series came together: the team wrote and made it for Leguizamo, then created a network when they could not find a home for it.

How the series found a home—and what is known about viewing it
Rappaport said the team “made the show and had to create a network to find a home for it.” Interview participants describe The Network as a free streaming service created to carry the series. That explains the launch story they told in 2024, but the interview and video listing do not establish The Network’s current catalog, availability, or access terms. Check the service directly for current viewing information rather than assuming the show remains available there.

The interview also gives a glimpse of the production’s pace and post-production. Rappaport recalled shooting about 20 pages of dialogue a day, including 25 pages of dinner scenes in one day. He said the voiceovers were developed during editing: after initially working without them, he wrote lines that cast members recorded temporarily on iPhones before recording in a booth. He also described editing the show intermittently over roughly two and a half years between commercial projects.
