JoJo Siwa addressed speculation that her relationship with Chris Hughes was a “lavender relationship” during an appearance on E!’s Hot Goss, according to E!’s June 4, 2026 report. She rejected the premise and objected to the scrutiny she faced after dating a man following relationships with women. That report records what she said then; it does not establish whether the two are together now.
What Siwa said about the speculation
E! reported that Siwa pushed back against people describing her relationship with Hughes as a “lavender relationship.” The outlet says she spoke about being scrutinized more for dating a man after having dated women, and quoted her response to the criticism as “Oh, grow up!” These remarks are attributed to E!’s account of her Hot Goss appearance; a separate transcript or recording is not established here. Read E!’s June 4, 2026 report.
E!’s report also quotes Siwa recalling, “I came out when I was 17, I had a wonderful relationship with a girl.” That statement provides context for her comments about scrutiny; it does not give outsiders grounds to define her identity or speculate about her motives.
What “lavender relationship” means in this context
The phrase is being used as speculation about whether a relationship involving a queer person and a man is romantic or instead intended to conceal or manage public perceptions of sexuality. Siwa rejected that framing. The label is not a verified description of her relationship, and the reporting does not support treating it as fact.

How the relationship was publicly described
They met on Celebrity Big Brother UK
ABC News reported that Siwa and Hughes met as fellow contestants on Celebrity Big Brother UK. During the show, Siwa described herself as queer rather than lesbian, ABC News reported; that is a contextual account of her words at the time, not an invitation for others to assign her a label. ABC News’s account of the show and their relationship.
Siwa confirmed the romance in June 2025
In an interview with The Guardian reported by ABC News on June 2, 2025, Siwa said, “It’s not platonic anymore,” and described herself as “absolutely head over heels for him.” This is an earlier public confirmation of a romantic relationship, not a statement of their status today.
