The trailer arrived on September 26, 2024, and ends with Eve facing John Wick. The film later opened in U.S. theaters on June 6, 2025.
What is the Ballerina trailer about?
The trailer follows Eve as she moves between ballet and the violent world of the Ruska Roma, the clandestine organization that trains orphans as assassins. It shows her dancing, fighting, training in martial arts gyms, practicing with pistols, and checking into the Continental. Her pursuit is driven by revenge for her father’s death.
Near the end, Eve asks John Wick, “How do I start doing what you do?” He replies, “Looks like you already have.” The brief exchange places Reeves’s character in Eve’s story without making him its focus. ABC/GMA reported on the trailer’s release and transcribed the exchange on September 26, 2024.
Is Ballerina part of the John Wick franchise?
Yes. Ballerina is set in the John Wick universe, with Eve’s story taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and before John Wick: Chapter 4. It expands the franchise through a new lead character and the Ruska Roma tradition.

The official film site describes the movie as designed to stand alone. Watching Chapters 3 and 4 can provide useful background on the Ruska Roma and the assassin hierarchy, but the site does not present either as a prerequisite. The official film site provides the synopsis and franchise context; Lionsgate’s official trailer listing also identifies the film’s connection to the franchise.
Do you need to watch John Wick 3 first?
No. The official site says Ballerina can be watched as a standalone story. If you want more context for the organization Eve belongs to and the wider assassin world, Chapter 3 – Parabellum is the most relevant earlier film; Chapter 4 follows it in the franchise timeline, not before Eve’s story.
