Yes—but only as a qualified, later acknowledgment. Jimmy Kimmel initially rejected Jay Leno’s description of their 2010 exchange as a sucker punch. In March 2010, Kimmel said he had not thought he sucker-punched Leno, then looked up the term and concluded, “it turns out, I did.” The remark referred to a sharp joke about Leno’s return to The Tonight Show, not a physical altercation.
Why Leno said he felt sucker-punched
The dispute played out during the late-night succession conflict involving Leno and Conan O’Brien. After O’Brien took over The Tonight Show, Leno returned to host it following O’Brien’s short tenure. On January 14, 2010, Kimmel appeared on Leno’s program, The Jay Leno Show, for its “10@10” segment.
Asked about the best prank he had ever pulled, Kimmel joked that he had told someone he would give him his show in five years, then gave it to him and took it back almost immediately. The target was Leno’s return. Kimmel also joked that he and O’Brien had children to support while Leno had cars, and told Leno to leave their shows alone.
Leno later described the exchange to Oprah Winfrey this way: “Again, I had Jimmy Kimmel on my show, and yeah, I got sucker punched.” He said he had not expected Kimmel to take the interview in that direction and noted that he could have edited the segment.

How Kimmel answered at the time
Kimmel said the segment had been set up with mostly light questions, including one about his weakness for junk food. He said he asked to address the Leno–O’Brien dispute because it was what viewers wanted to hear about, and expected Leno to engage with him rather than stick to the prepared questions.
When Leno’s Oprah comments became public, Kimmel responded on his own show: “That’s a sucker-punch right there.” He was referring to Leno’s decision to tell Oprah that he felt sucker-punched. The two men were therefore using the same phrase to describe different moments: Leno applied it to Kimmel’s jokes, while Kimmel applied it to Leno’s public complaint.

What Kimmel admitted in March 2010
In a later interview on The Joy Behar Show, Kimmel revisited the accusation. CNN’s transcript records him saying: “I don`t think Jay was happy because he went on the Oprah show and said I sucker punched him. … And I didn`t feel like I did sucker punch, but then I looked it up in the dictionary and it turns out, I did.”
That is the basis for saying Kimmel admitted he sucker-punched Leno: he first said he did not feel that he had, then jokingly conceded the point after looking up the expression. It was a retrospective acknowledgment of the verbal ambush Leno described, not an admission of physical violence.
