The Sunday Times Style feature appeared online on June 15, 2024, for the June 16 issue, while Alwyn was promoting the film Kinds of Kindness. What did Alwyn say about the end of the relationship?
Alwyn described the relationship as “long, loving” and “fully committed,” and said it had lasted “over six and a half years.” He added: “That is a hard thing to navigate.” The duration is Alwyn’s own description as quoted in coverage, not an independently verified measure.
His remarks acknowledged the difficulty of a breakup without explaining why the relationship ended. He did not offer a detailed account of the split or identify private reasons for it.

Why did he focus on privacy and public attention?
Alwyn said that the abrupt move from a private breakup to widespread public discussion was unusual: “What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in.” The ELLE coverage also highlighted his concern about the speed of that attention.
On the couple’s approach to privacy, he said they had “together — both of us, mutually — decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private,” adding: “It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now.” His point was that the decision belonged to both of them and remained in place after the breakup, not that he was about to disclose more.

Did he say whether he listened to The Tortured Poets Department?
No clear yes-or-no answer is reported. Asked about Swift’s album, Alwyn said, “I understand people’s curiosity,” then returned to the idea that he hoped people could empathize and that he wanted to speak about what he chose to discuss. ABC News reported the exchange; it should not be taken as confirmation that he listened to the album or as a direct response to particular songs.
