WWE is scripted entertainment, not an unscripted contest with genuine competitive outcomes. But “fake” can be misleading: performers are trained athletes carrying out physical performances, and WWE warns viewers not to imitate what happens in or out of the ring.
What does WWE mean by “scripted”?
WWE has described its programming directly as scripted. In a May 2022 statement about Sasha Banks and Naomi, the company said: “Monday Night Raw is a scripted live TV show, whose characters are expected to perform the requirements of their contract.” WWE also said the performers had eight hours to rehearse and construct the match. Read WWE’s statement.
That means the show’s characters, storylines and match outcomes are part of entertainment programming, rather than the result of an unscripted sporting competition. The public sources cited here do not establish how much of every match is planned in advance, so it would be inaccurate to claim that every moment is scripted in the same way.
Is the physical action real?
The physical performance is real athletic work. WWE describes its performers as highly trained athletes in its FAQ and as trained professional athletes in its copyright notice. That does not mean every impact, move or injury is genuine in the same way in every match. “Scripted” describes the entertainment and its intended outcomes; it does not make the physical demands imaginary.

Why shouldn’t viewers imitate WWE?
WWE warns that trying to copy performers’ physicality is “extremely dangerous and irresponsible.” Its copyright notice also says: “You should never try to emulate what they do in and out of the ring.” The company encourages parents to explain the difference between scripted entertainment and real life. These are cautions against attempting moves without the training and conditions of a professional performance.
What does WWE say about concussion safety?
WWE’s FAQ states that a performer with concussion symptoms or a concussion is not cleared to return until passing an ImPACT test and receiving clinical clearance from a certified physician. This is WWE’s stated policy; the policy description alone does not independently verify how it is implemented.

Why is “fake” an incomplete description
WWE calls itself a sports-entertainment company in its corporate overview. Calling it simply “fake” can blur two different things: the storylines and outcomes are scripted entertainment, while trained performers physically carry out the action. WWE’s own wording—“scripted”—is the more precise answer.
