Before Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fought on November 15, 2024, boxing figures disagreed about who would win. Larry Holmes backed Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya saw Tyson as dangerous early but questioned his conditioning in a longer fight, and Le’Veon Bell picked Paul. Paul went on to win by unanimous decision.
What did boxing figures predict before the fight?
The picks were individual opinions, not a consensus. In its November 15, 2024 roundup, CBS Sports collected predictions from boxing champions, coaches and other public figures.

Larry Holmes backed Mike Tyson
Former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes said he would bet on Tyson, calling him “Iron Mike.” Holmes’s pick rested on Tyson’s punching threat rather than a shared view among all the people quoted.
Oscar De La Hoya saw an early Tyson advantage
De La Hoya’s prediction depended on how long the bout lasted. He said that if it ended before the third or fourth round, he favored Tyson by knockout; if it went beyond four rounds, Tyson’s conditioning concerned him, and he thought Paul’s youth could become an advantage.

Le’Veon Bell picked Jake Paul
Former NFL player Le’Veon Bell offered a contrasting pick: “I think he beats Mike Tyson.” His statement favored Paul without the early-finish condition De La Hoya attached to his Tyson prediction.
What happened in the fight?
Paul and Tyson fought on November 15, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Netflix’s official event listing described an eight-round main event with two-minute rounds.
Paul won by unanimous decision. The Associated Press reported judges’ scores of 80–72 and 79–73 twice in its November 16, 2024 post-fight report.

These were pre-fight judgments made under uncertainty, not expert verdicts after the event. Holmes backed Tyson, De La Hoya’s Tyson pick hinged on an early finish, and Bell chose Paul. Paul’s eventual decision win establishes the result; it does not turn those separate opinions into a consensus.
Odds offered a separate snapshot of expectations: CBS Sports’ November 15 preview listed Paul at -200 and Tyson at +160. Those were historical pre-fight odds, not current prices and not a count of expert picks. The preview and odds are in CBS Sports’ event preview.
How large was the event?
Netflix reported different audience measures in separate announcements, so they should not be treated as interchangeable. In a December 2, 2024 retrospective, Netflix Tudum reported 72,300 attendees and 65 million concurrent streams at peak. Netflix’s November 16 announcement said 60 million households tuned in live. The company also said the gate surpassed $18 million, double the previous Texas combat-sports gate record; that is Netflix’s event announcement, not an independent audit.
