What is the song at the end of Will & Harper?
The song is called “Harper and Will Go West.” Wiig performs it over the documentary’s end credits. Netflix says that during their road trip, longtime friends Will Ferrell and Harper Steele asked Wiig to write a theme for them. Netflix Tudum’s film guide identifies the song and its place in the film.
Who wrote and performed “Harper and Will Go West”?
Wiig performs the song and co-wrote it with songwriter Sean Douglas. The Television Academy’s record for Will & Harper also credits Josh Greenbaum for music and/or lyrics. The Television Academy record lists the song’s credits.
Greenbaum, the film’s director, said Ferrell and Steele called Wiig with the idea. While he was editing, he and Wiig worked with Douglas to record it. He described the result as both tender and funny, reflecting the friends’ relationship. In a Netflix Tudum interview, Greenbaum said: “I think she did such a great job of striking the right tone of what our film is and what their friendship is. What is Will & Harper about?
The 2024 documentary follows Ferrell and Steele, longtime friends, on a road trip after Steele comes out as a trans woman. Their journey gives the friends time to reconnect and introduces Steele to the country as herself.
