What is The Role of a Lifetime?
The Role of a Lifetime is an Australian entertainment and factual series that uses acted family situations to introduce broader parenting topics. ABC included the program in its 2025 factual slate (ABC’s 2025 content slate).
Ritchie plays “Mum” and Hussain plays “Dad” in the scenarios, with Keller as host. Dent is among the cast and provides parenting guidance. Her official biography describes her as an author, educator and parenting and resilience specialist (Maggie Dent’s official biography).

#1 Best Overall
- A child asking for a smartphone
- Boundaries, rebellion, discipline and online gaming
- Teen social lives and social media
- Sex and relationships
- Teen anxiety and depression, artificial intelligence and deepfake technology
The format combines acted scenarios with factual exploration. It is a television series, not a clinical guideline, and its subjects do not establish that one parenting approach will work for every family.

An announcement reported on 18 July 2024 said production had begun on a five-part series for ABC TV and ABC iview, with a 2025 broadcast planned (PerthNow’s 18 July 2024 report). ABC later included the title in its 2025 slate, and the Australian Apple TV listing identifies it as a 2025 release. Those records establish the planned broadcast year and listed release year, but not whether episodes are currently available on ABC iview.
