What happens in the “Dancers in the Dark” preview?
The case begins when a tap dancer falls from a building roof onto his car. The victim is wearing tap shoes, and Karadec initially considers whether the fall was a suicide attempt. Morgan is brought in to help investigate, even as another officer dismisses her as the department’s “cleaning lady.”
The exchange between Morgan and Karadec is awkward but direct. Karadec reacts to their new arrangement with, “We’re really doing this, huh?” Morgan answers, “We’re doing it.” When she tells him, “Not today. Check back in with me tomorrow. We’ll see how this goes,” he responds by asking her to share her thoughts: “Morgan if this is gonna work, and I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, you have to say what you’re thinking.”

Why the moment matters for Morgan and Karadec
Karadec’s request marks a practical shift: rather than merely having Morgan present, he wants to hear the reasoning behind her conclusions. The preview suggests the two are learning how to work together, with Karadec starting to invite her perspective into the case.
That is as far as this scene supports the “grow closer” framing. It depicts a developing professional partnership, not proof that Morgan and Karadec are romantically involved or evidence of where their relationship goes later in the season.
