What did Catherine do at the Cenotaph?
Contemporaneous reporting placed Catherine on the FCDO balcony with Queen Camilla and other royals, watching the ceremony. King Charles led the service, and Prince William took part and laid a wreath. Catherine was not among those laying wreaths at the Cenotaph. The distinction matters: her appearance was as an observer at the service, not as a wreath-layer.
What did Kate Middleton wear on Remembrance Sunday?
Vogue reported that Catherine wore a black Catherine Walker coat, a navy blouse with a lace collar and a fascinator by Lock & Co. The publication also identified pearl earrings, a Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm brooch and a poppy. These are Vogue’s descriptions of her outfit, not an official royal inventory.

The red poppy is widely associated with remembrance. The sources do not establish a personal explanation from Catherine for her poppy, brooch or clothing, so their precise significance to her should not be assumed.
What does the National Service of Remembrance commemorate?
The annual service honours British and Commonwealth military and civilian personnel who died in the two world wars and later conflicts. The government describes the observance as marking the First World War Armistice and remembering those who died in conflict. Its central public moment is the two-minute silence at 11am, followed by wreath-laying and the veterans’ march past.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport announcement published on 9 November 2025 estimated that around 10,000 veterans would take part in the Royal British Legion march past, with more than 300 Armed Forces and civilian organisations represented. It also expected approximately 10,000 members of the public to line Whitehall. These were advance event estimates, not audited final attendance counts.
In that announcement, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “This Remembrance Sunday, we pause as a nation to honour all those who have served our country.”

How was the Cenotaph service different from the Festival of Remembrance?
The two events were separate observances. The Festival of Remembrance took place at the Royal Albert Hall on the preceding evening; Catherine attended with Prince George, according to Vogue. The Sunday service was held at the Cenotaph on Whitehall. Clothing reported for one event should not be attributed to the other.
